The Order Selector is responsible for picking pallets/orders for stores based on prompts from a voice pick unit. The worker drives an electric pallet jack and walks up and down aisles in a warehouse to retrieve items from storage slots. Items are stacked on one of two pallets (called a cube) carried by the pallet jack. After the worker completes the route through the warehouse, and has completely filled the order, the cubes are transported to the loading dock, where shrink wrap is applied in preparation for transport.
The voice pick system relays the pick order to the worker while he/she moves to the slot/locations within the warehouse. The system tracks the allocated time for travel, picking of the item by quantity, and the required time for the worker to complete the order. The warehouses are typically organized with heavier items in the first few aisles and the pick order will begin with these items as they become the base of the cube. However, the types and quantity of these items will vary and full height ranges of product placement in the cubes was documented.
The heaviest weight lifted by an Order Selector on an occasional basis is 73.6 pounds. The heaviest weight lifted by an Order Selector on a frequent basis is 50 pounds.
